BSFC is a volunteer-run group of people who love speculative fiction, whether that’s fantasy, science fiction, horror, magical realism or the many other weird and wonderful genres that incorporate ‘non-real’ elements in their stories.
We aim to run three different types of events:
- Monthly book club & social in the first week of the month.
Book club is free, although you must get a ticket via the link on the event page in order to secure your place.
- Author readings & publishing Q&As – these consist of author readings and/or Q&As with publishing professionals. We also offer emerging/unpublished writers the opportunity to submit their work and get brief feedback from pros. One writer will be selected to read from their work along with the published authors. The second half of the event consists of a panel discussion on the event theme, with the audience being encouraged to participate through questions and comments. Attendees will also get the opportunity to have books signed by attending authors.
To cover our costs and subsidise attending authors, we ask for a small entry fee.
These events will take place once COVID restrictions have been lifted.
- Writer get-togethers – for writers of speculative fiction who want to find critique partners and develop their craft. Watch this space for further details on our first writer event!
The events are open to all. Our aim is to create a friendly and safe environment in which people can socialise with other book lovers, hear great writers reading from their work, and participate in book-related discussions with authors.
Authors, agents, and publicity reps are welcome to contact us to book a slot for a reading and Q&A. We organise each event two to three months in advance.
