ABOUT THE BSFC
The BSFC is a volunteer-run group of people who love speculative fiction, whether that’s fantasy, science fiction, horror, magical realism or the many other weird and wonderful genres that incorporate ‘non-real’ elements in their stories.
Our events include book club discussions, author readings, panel discussions, and/or Q&As with publishing professionals.
We also offer emerging/unpublished writers the opportunity to submit their work and get brief feedback from writing pros. One writer will be selected to read from their work along with the published authors at each event.
The events are open to all. Our aim is to create a friendly and safe environment in which people can socialise with other book lovers, hear great writers reading from their work, and participate in book-related discussions with authors.
We are non-profit making, but charge a small entry fee to cover costs and subsidise author expenses.

This month, we’ll discuss N.K. Jemisin’s short story collection, ‘How Long ‘Til Black Future Month?’ Weaving together elements of fantasy and science fiction, these stories cast a sharp eye on many aspects of modern society.
N.K. Jemisin is one of the pre-eminent speculative fiction authors of our time, and was the first person to win three consecutive Hugo Awards for each novel in her Broken Earth trilogy.
